Every third IT specialist mastered the profession on their own - and the same number received a specialty at the university.

Despite the high level of salaries, only 20% of IT specialists consider money a decisive factor, half of specialists choose IT based on their abilities and hobbies, and every tenth generally thinks that they got into this area by accident.

IT is most often the first specialty of the respondents, almost half of them have always worked in the field of development. Of those who came to IT from another area, half are engineers. Almost 40% consider IT a way of life, and every fifth specialist named technology as his calling.

IT is still a labor sphere with a dominant number of men - only 21% of Ozon surveyed specialists are women (this distribution has not changed over the year, similar results were previously published by the HeadHunter portal). The average age of specialists is 22-28 years.

The top 3 popular specialties included development (3 out of 4 respondents are programmers), testing (6% of respondents) and project management (just over 2%), which is also confirmed by the statistics of vacancies in the IT labor market.

Every fifth specialist came to IT after completing courses. When choosing a program, word of mouth works best - the majority makes a choice based on recommendations (63%). The popularity of teachers plays a significant role - more than half of the respondents pay attention to the teaching staff, and every third to the popularity of the organizer. The opportunity to study for free was noted by only 28% of respondents, only a third of respondents pay attention to the guarantee of employment when choosing a course, but the opportunity to get into a large company after training worries only one out of 10.

How did you get into IT? Let us know in the comments. And Happy Programmer's Day, of course!
