Greetings to you, Khabrovites! After working days and before the weekend, I offer you entertaining, but at the same time life hacking material. It will focus on the selection and purchase of equipment (TV, smartphones) in various stores. I will interpret on my own behalf and everything written below is the purest truth.



Let's talk about low-skilled salespeople - consultants within Ukraine. I have never bought anything from gadgets abroad.



Introduction



About 3-4 years ago, I was at the peak of my corrosiveness in the TX of the purchased product. It was often a technique. We will omit the choice of branded items, because this is a little off habr. My inquisitiveness and thorough study of the purchased goods lasted for 10 years. Now, with age, sometimes I don't have enough nerves for these battles, and I let a lot of things go on the brakes, which I often regret.

In the early 2000s, the variety of gadgets began to grow and become more sophisticated technically. This is where the "drawdowns" of sales consultants started.



In parallel with the development of technology, I got a grasp of the characteristics and features, kept my finger on the pulse of the products I was interested in. When everything was not so difficult for the guys, their tips and advice helped me out. Choosing a VCR (6 heads, wow), they suitably told me everything and explained. They helped with the refrigerator. Everything was fine until LCD TVs, smartphones, portable hi-res players, etc.



Then "our brother" began to pour in. Now I will tell a very funny story, how I chose an LCD TV about 4 years ago.

In 2016, I had a need to change an old TV from Samsung (32 inches) for something more solid and larger. In the era of online shopping, it was decided to choose it online. That was my fault. Having ordered, according to reviews, a 40-inch LG panel, I rushed to pick it up with pleasure.

I will immediately indicate that I have prepared well. I took with me a USB flash drive and a portable hard disk with test files of various formats and directions.


Arriving at the place of unpacking and turning on this device, I was shocked. The pinkish matrix of LG TVs (as practice later showed), the broken pixel - caused indignation in me. As soon as he began to "feed" him video files, everything became bad. Perhaps it was the budget segment? Hell no! Then I also watched TVs of this brand in the premium segment. All the flaws have almost migrated to the older models.



So. It was decided to go for a ride in hypermarkets and choose live. And then it began ...

I will not indicate specific stores for ethical reasons.


Arriving at a large and famous electronics store, I rushed to contemplate the range. As I wrote above, having once again looked at TV from LG for more substantial money, I decided to completely abandon the purchase of this brand in the context of TV.

I respect the LG brand in general, but for 2015 they had disgusting TVs at any price point.


After LG, I switched to my second-hand Samsung company. It would seem that this is the solution. A powerful brand, popular. All new items are the first to appear with them. It wasn't like that.

If LG had a disgusting and slow matrix, then Samsung showed its other weak side - it did not read half of the formats offered. What the same "ski" successfully coped with.

I want to note that I chose TV for watching sports and playing games on PS, where the speed of the matrix played an important role.


This is where my close communication with sales consultants began.



As you know, they flock to the client like wasps to honey. Representatives of Samsung, LG, and Philips flew up to me. They poured such game into their ears ...



A girl who was a consultant on Samsung equipment gave a MASTERPIECE! It turns out that my files in the mkv container were not readable on Samsung, because they were not licensed, Karl! Nearby, even the guys from Philips were chuckling on the elbow.



Having laughed a lot and tried a couple more TVs from Samsung, it was decided to switch to another brand.



Philips. Excellent color rendering. Looking ahead, I will say, the most correct and balanced. Omnivorousness was also gorgeous. It was getting close to evening and in a noisy, large hypermarket, I did not notice the nuances that came out at home. After buying a Philips TV and installing it at home, I noticed terrible flare at the corners of the matrix. You won't see that in the store, where the lighting is bright. Also, I did not pay attention (I was very tired) to the insufficient speed of the matrix and, when watching football, playing games on PS, there were trails from images. This was not fixed by the settings. Had to return the next day.

Since I really liked the color reproduction, Philips was again taken, but with a faster matrix and hertzovka.



Houses were found the same terrible lights, but not only in the corners, but throughout the entire area. The next morning I returned the TV to the store.



After reading the specialized forums, I discovered that this is a common problem of modern TV. This did not suit me and did not calm me down.



For the third TV, I went with my cape to check these same highlights already on the spot. We took Philips again, covered it and voila - everything is in place. What are you going to do! I was filled with anger, and sales assistants just shrugged their shoulders and said, they say, this is the norm.

Over the years, the quality of ALL products decreases. Things, technology, food. It is a fact.



I took a break for a week. Then he rushed to the next store again. And then I came across a TV from Sony. My God, where have you been before and why didn't I pay attention to this TM right away !? Yes, because since childhood I noticed that Sony is much less advertised than their competitors. This is because a quality product does not need advertising.



We began to twist, twirl with the guys the Sony TV line. I found dead pixels on sample after sample. And so we got to the reference copy. I started to run my test videos on it, which the consultants then took to rewrite for themselves.

I'll stay with your CO for a bit. Each TV brand has its own strengths and weaknesses in technical aspects. Therefore, demo videos are played on them, which show only their advantages, and you will not notice the disadvantages. I came with a set of universal videos that revealed all the nuances.


Sony's panel fared the best. Of the shortcomings, there was only a slight departure to blue, but it was so insignificant that I stopped there.



In the background, the consultants babbled something about the paid installation of services and other things, but they were given an educational program and supplementing their instructions.

Lokhobubovatelstvo, with preinstallation of additional software and guarantees - this is generally a game. I try to save all my relatives from this and go to choose equipment with them. But, as they say, without a sucker ...


This is where the story and torment with the choice of TV ends. Now I know for myself that my next TV will be Sony!

What is the mediocrity of sales consultants? Yes, in that 90% of them cannot connect even two words in the case. They throw general phrases, and why that product is technically better than the other, they cannot say. In the case when they are trying to fence something, for an advanced buyer this is the babble of a 5-year-old child.



Buying the same smartphones, the process is much easier. Choosing for myself, I come to one of the popular stores to have a final look at the color rendering of the screen, hold it in my hands.



Here, of course, "gurus" run up to me. In 2019, there was a conversation with one of these. I turned the phone from Asus, and he tried to "sell" me Xiaomi and all sorts of Meise. I started telling him that I needed this and that on my phone. I have an LG G7 in my hands, which has an excellent IPS matrix, a built-in DAC, etc. To which he began to recommend some garbage, without all this and prove that the built-in DAC from a well-known brand (which is in many hi-res players) is bullshit. Here is a super bass booster from Xiaomi or Meizu - it's no worse. It's also useless to argue with them about the same amoles. And so a bunch of little things.



Returning to TV, how many people were “shod” with this hellish hertzovka of 800-1000 Hz, which is not always needed even for 3D. People bought this "corn" to view regular 2D content.



A braking smart TV and the fact that it is better to take a high-quality panel + TV box. Kostya from the electronics hypermarket won't tell you all this.

You may think that I was very biased about the choice, but this is not so. I am used to enjoying the purchased things and take them for a long time.



The main goal of a sales assistant is to sell. Only a few of them really love their job and are technically versed in the product being sold.



Fortunately, modern TVs, smartphones, and tablets use 2k, 4k matrices. You won't find a broken pixel.
