Playing DOOM on a pregnancy test. What? Yes

And also on the microwave, ticket validator and much more.

A pregnancy test has now been added to the flash mob for porting DOOM to any device that only has a display.

Foone, an enthusiastic programmer and adept at reverse engineering, was able to run a fully functional DOOM game on an electronic pregnancy test, and before that did the same with The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim . The first video of a classic shooter on a miniature screen of the device was shown to him over the weekend on his personal microblog on Twitter. He then admitted that he was actually just playing the video, but has since raised the stakes and found a way to actually play DOOM on an electronic test using a wireless keyboard.

How is this possible, you ask? Of course, it was not without cheating.

In his thread, Foone cited research by another Twitter user, Xtoff, who decided last month to check out what lies behind the body of ClearBlue's pregnancy test. Foone used another brand, Equate, but found a similar "filling" in it: a paper strip, a CR1616 3V battery, an eight-bit Holtek HT48C06 microcontroller (64 bytes of RAM, runs at 4 MHz or 8 MHz) and RAM.

According to Foone, filling this pregnancy test is faster in computing basic math and I / O than the IBM PC.

The test is activated when a chemical treated paper strip is wet. After that, an inscription about a positive or negative result is displayed on the LCD-display.

To fully run the game, he had to replace the display and microcontroller. The original display could only show four possible screens, and the CPU could not be reprogrammed, so some extra tweaks had to be made. In addition, the test was connected to a PC as a power source, with which the game was also launched. Of course, even after the replacement, the display remained monochrome with a resolution of 128x32 pixels, so it was not very convenient to play on it. But the display of DOOM itself on the pregnancy test display is already fun and admirable.

The beginning of history "Will it run DOOM? "2016 can be considered the year DOOM was launched on a miniature Game Boy housed in a keychain. Time has passed since then, and now it seems that the legendary shooter can be launched on almost anything. To prove this, below is a list (not complete!) On which devices this was done.

Canon Proxima Printer

The security system of the Canon printer line turned out to be not the most resistant, and through the software for updates, it was possible to ensure that the game was launched on the device's display.

Oscilloscope

The oscilloscope itself uses the Windows 95 operating system, so according to user Zekinn, who first launched DOOM on it, the next little thing remained - to discard unnecessary prejudices in the name of improving the human experience.

ATM

Usually, an ATM is used to withdraw or deposit money, but enthusiasts decided to run DOOM on it instead. With the Windows XP operating system preinstalled on such machines, further steps to install the game rested only on a question of desire.

DOOM to DOOM

Why not play DOOM while you play DOOM? With the help of the mod, you can start the game inside the game on a slot machine, which is an object of the environment at one of the levels.

Piano

In this setting, the keys of the musical instrument are responsible for movement control and shooting. Of course, you also need to connect an external display to see who you are shooting at.

Minecraft

A couple of months ago, a mod for Minecraft appeared, with which you can use in-game computers as real virtual machines ... on which, of course, it turned out to be possible to run Doom over time.
