Analog world
Understanding the analog world through the digital lens is not easy. In product development, templates are often used that do not fit what was previously invented. And only after a while the developers manage to combine one with the other.
A good example is print media, which monetized by advertising next to news blocks. The first websites tried to monetize similarly. It worked, but not very efficient. Print editions continued to generate the most profit, while their electronic counterparts - a few dollars, and mobile - only pennies. Of course, the internet got a lot of attention, but it wasn't monetizing very well.
