DJI never ceases to amaze users with its designs. This time the company introduced a new portable electronic stabilizer for working with smartphones - Osmo Mobile 4. It is lighter than its predecessor, the new product has expanded qualities of shooting and post-processing. About this and not only in our review.
DJI Osmo gimbals are now a versatile option for capturing high-quality video by hand. The devices are suitable for both hobbyist bloggers, travelers and professionals. Stabilizers are quick and easy to use, so you never miss even the most unexpected moments in your life.
Appearance and equipment
Osmo Mobile 4 has a foldable design, which cannot be said about the first models Osmo Mobile and Osmo Mobile 2. But there is a third version, which, although it is the first folding in the series, but differs from the qualities of the new product. Let's see what the difference is.
The gadget has become lighter and slightly changed its shape. It is now a more elongated device with a longer handle. The dimensions of the device are 163 × 100 × 47 mm instead of 157 × 130 × 46 mm in Osmo Mobile 3. The handle has become narrower and thinner, which allows you to hold the gimbal more securely in your hand.
The location of the navigation controls allows the Osmo Mobile 4 to be operated with one hand. Each button has its own advanced functionality. For example, the power button M is also responsible for switching between modes and sending the device to sleep.
The trigger houses a button to put Osmo Mobile 4 into sport mode. And now it works even faster.
On the left there is a side zoom switch, on the right - the USB-C port familiar to the user. The port is universal - it can be used to connect third-party accessories. The connector is 3.5 mm.
The main distinguishing feature of the novelty is the unique DJI-developed magnetic kit. This is a smartphone holder and a magnetic ring holder. It will become much more convenient to connect the phone to the stabilizer with it.
The magnetic holder weighs only 32.6 grams, the weight of the ring is 11.4. The hinge platform can rotate 360 degrees, and a thin metal plate is attached to the smartphone using 4 magnets.
The Osmo Mobile 4 comes with a USB-C power cable, tripod holder, storage case and wrist strap, and a set of magnetic holders.
Improved shooting stabilizer
The DJI Osmo Mobile 4 supports 3-axis image stabilization and a more advanced motor in addition. Now, problems with depreciation on the phone do not matter. The gimbal will keep the movement smooth and provide the smartphone with reliable stability.
Intelligent functions
Osmo Mobile 4 is even more versatile than its predecessor. The DJI Mimo app interface is intuitively simpler and more accessible, and the built-in navigation bar will help even the most inexperienced user quickly get used to it.
There are now many new modes for capturing and post-processing images and videos, all powered by artificial intelligence.
So, for example, the Active Track 3.0 follow mode, the stories mode that automatically edits the footage, as well as others - panorama, hyperlapse, time-lapse, already familiar to users have been updated. New features include Dolly Zoom and CloneMe Pano modes, as well as gesture controls.
Pano mode functionality is now available in three formats: 240 °, 3 × 3 (wide angle) and CloneMe Pano. With this mode, you can make a panorama from several frames taken in different places and with a time delay. You no longer have to limit your imagination and shots to one object. For example, you can take a selfie, and then take a few shots of a mountain or seascape. When using the CloneMe mode, the photos will be combined into one panorama. You just have to wait a few seconds.
Well, and a completely new Dynamic Zoom mode. Many people know it firsthand as the Dolly Zoom trick or the Hitchcock effect used in the film industry. Getting closer to the subject while the background is removed, or vice versa.
Today, professional video technology is used to create such an effect, as well as additional human strength. No, these are not bricks to carry. We are talking about camera operators who edit material in specialized programs. And with Osmo Mobile 4, you can enjoy the cinematic Hitchcock effect with just a few clicks.
Gesture control
The possibilities of this regime have also expanded. While the Osmo Mobile 3 was only able to recognize the Palm and V gestures to activate Active Track mode, the Osmo Mobile 4 can also recognize the Square gesture to activate Active Track mode. In addition, it is possible to remotely control the movements, turns and tilts of the device.
