Over the past few years, the number of data centers has grown significantly - not only in Russia, but all over the world. Their importance has also increased, some of them affect the performance of critical services. Experts do a good job of servicing data centers, but more and more reliable security is needed.

Carelessness or carelessness is unacceptable, which is why some companies are considering strengthening the protective perimeter with robots. And these are not just plans or an abstract idea. Switch, one of the largest DC operators in the world, has developed a specialized robot to protect data centers from unwanted visitors.

The device is called Switch SENTRY. The company created it not only for personal purposes, but also for sale to other interested DC owners ... The robot inspires respect at first sight - its height is 1.8 meters. There is no weapon, but the system is equipped with many useful modules and sensors for protection.

What's in the robot's arsenal:

  • Night vision cameras.
  • 32-channel lidar.
  • AI-controlled communication module.
  • Nuclear battery with an autonomy of 100 years .
  • Satellite and 5G communication modules.
  • Terrain mapping module.
  • Autonomous navigation.
  • Human operator connectivity.
  • Signaling.
  • Ultrasonic sensors.
  • Wheeled chassis with stabilization.
  • Water resistant.

According to the developers, these bots can be controlled by humans from a distance or work offline. Any of the Switch SENTRY robots is capable of detecting an intruder using ultrasonic sensors, night vision cameras and lidar.

The device is equipped with a face recognition system, can determine the body temperature of a nearby person (precaution in a pandemic). The body of the device not only does not allow water to pass through, but is also bulletproof - in case of attack by intruders.

Switch SENTRY is designed for physical protection of the perimeter of data centers. It is impractical to involve people in such work, but robots - yes. They do not get tired, do not make mistakes due to carelessness and are always on the lookout.
