Street clock from the inside, and if it's more complicated?

Despite the "excellent" reviews of "theorists" - I continue the "cycle" about the internal structure of LED street clocks, from the "practice" side.



In the case when the case is rectangular and the display is, in fact, only four digits = what can be complicated there? There is always a striving for "something more." But if the case is of a more complex shape, then there is not only a more time-consuming process of making the dial and case itself, but a “zest” is needed!



Some time ago, the opportunity arose to make watches with a multifaceted edge resembling an "order" in shape. For even greater "unusualness" - added such a "trick" as seconds markers running round the edge. It looks very unusual and impressive!

The most difficult thing here is precisely in the labels of different lengths, and these are much more complex miscalculations of LED chains, since drivers do not "like" LEDs with a large difference in the final voltage within one driver (which is honestly written in the apnot for these same drivers, tolerances are literally half a volt).

The beginning - as usual - a layout, it can also be used as a "photo view" (if colored correctly). Then the formation of the display matrix - everything is as usual, just more and more "dreary".

As for the internal structure, such a clock is MUCHmore complicated, in fact, like several dials, because four segment symbols displaying information are only 28 segments (chains). But second markers are as many as 60 marks (chains), and even with different forward voltage (that is, different grouping by driver “fields”). It turns out - only the labels themselves, it's like almost three more ordinary (symbolic) clocks.



But the difficulties do not scare us ... Some time of painstaking monotonous work - and you're done!

It immediately draws attention to the abundance of driver cards, there are twice as many of them only by labels than for the main numbers. Also, a much more complex "power supply", several voltages, for greater efficiency and less heating (and hence - losses). And there are several times more connections. That is, such "watches" - not only look much more "advantageous", but also in terms of the complexity of assembly, at least three times more difficult than usual ...



Maybe that's why - almost no one makes such watches (at least I saw "third parties" literally " a couple of "in general).



In real life, the "local" watch can be viewed "live" along the Berislavskoe highway, behind the Grail cafe (next to the sink and shinservice, opposite the furniture, which is the former VoenTorg).



Specifically, these watches were installed in 2012, they work and sow the day around the clock, without repairs ...



Already “inspired” and “having filled my hand” - I made several more options, many say that “more beautiful”.

ZY soldering is performed by a soldering station, the temperature of the soldering iron tip is +280 degrees (for large "earthen" polygons +300 - they are more difficult to warm up). I do n’t understand at all how SMD can be soldered “somehow differently”!

  • when choosing components - 50% margin of technological parameters is used;
  • the design period of round-the-clock operation is 5 years.
