A feature of the software architecture of emulators is the rendering of polygons of game scenes through the native graphics API - as a result, emulators include a graphics "engine" of varying degrees of functionality. And one of the functionalities is rendering to the screen window resolution. The OmegaRed emulator renders into a separate video texture, and the size of this texture determines the size of the renderer's virtual camera.
