Snom D715 IP Phone Review

Hello dear readers. Today we present to your attention a review of the next model of the line of our equipment: IP-phone Snom D715.

To begin with, we want to offer you a short video review of this model so that you can view it from all sides.

Unpacking and packaging

Let's start our review by examining the box in which the device and its contents are delivered. The box carries information about the model and the version of the software installed on the phone, the package includes:

  • Telephone set
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Stand
  • Category 5E Ethernet cable
  • A tube and a twisted cord to connect it

Design

Consider a phone case. The appearance of the device from our review is classic for Snom phones: a black casing made of slightly rough plastic, pleasant to the touch, contains the inside of the device.

In addition to this design, this device can have a white body color, which is excellent for medical institutions and fits perfectly into the design of many offices.

Most of the phone's interfaces are accessible from the back of the case, which includes the network interfaces, power supply connector, headset and handset ports, and a microlift-EHS connector. But the USB port has shifted to the side of the case, where access to it is very, very convenient. On the back, in addition to connectors, there are holes for wall mounting and phone stand fastening.

On the front of the device there is a screen, a keyboard, a speakerphone and recesses for a handset. The screen of this model is monochrome, elongated horizontally, despite its not the highest resolution, it is excellent enough to display all information during the phone's operation. The backlight is bright enough to show all the labels on the display in sunny weather, and not too blinding in dim lighting.

Under the screen there are four contextual keys, along which there is a joystick in the form of a four-way navigation button and a key for confirming a selection and canceling an operation. It is convenient to use this design to navigate the phone's menu, the keys themselves have a clear feedback, do not sink or fall through.

Below is the dialer and BLF keys. The latter are made "in the old fashioned way", without a display, signatures for them are supposed to be applied manually on a special paper insert. It is often much easier than typing the name or the name of the organization from the keyboard of the device, and taking into account the small number of keys on the phone - there are 5 of them here, it should not cause trouble for its user.

There is no rebound trigger in the upper recess of the tube, as in almost all current Snom models. Removing the trigger reduces the number of mechanical parts of the phone, and therefore increases the reliability of our device. For the user, such a feature may be somewhat unusual at first, but in the end it will turn into ease of use and the awareness of the hang-up trigger as a relic of the past.

Software and customization

There are several main points in setting up an IP phone. First and foremost in any case: registering an account. Everything is relatively simple here, we fill in the fields according to the data provided by the provider or the PBX administrator.

We write down the data we have in the "Account", "Password" and "Server address", fill in the "Display name" with your name or number and "Apply", and then "Save" the settings. You can check the account registration status in the "System Information" section

The next point, which is often necessary, is the BLF and other function keys setting. On Snom devices, almost all function keys can be reconfigured, together with BLF they are located in the corresponding menu. Most of the functionality is available for all keys, of course, with the exception of the busy indication. The specificity of setting up this device is that there is no need to specify a label for BLF keys from the phone settings interface.

The function keys can be configured not only from the machine's web interface, but also using the on-screen menu. To do this, hold down the key to be configured for a few seconds and select the required function using the navigation keys. After making the settings, click "Save" and use the configured functionality.

On Snom phones, you can customize not only keys and accounts, but also change the appearance of the setup menu itself. You can change interface colors, icons and fonts. We have already talked about how exactly this can be done and we invite you to get acquainted with the material on this topic.

Functionality and operation

The phone is pleasant during operation. The two-position stand allows you to place it on the desktop in a convenient way, the selected angles of 28 or 46 degrees provide a good view of any person. Information is easily read from the screen. The keys of the dialer, due to their impressive size and high-quality performance, are easily squeezed through and at the same time you will not miss the desired one.

Naturally, when using the phone, you pay attention to the sound. The speakerphone reproduces the voice clearly and loudly enough. It will not be enough for a meeting room, but there is simply no chance of missing the words of the interlocutor at your workplace. At the same time, the speaker volume is regulated in a very wide range, allowing you to make the sound so that it does not interfere with your colleagues. The hands-free microphone captures the sound completely without adding deafness, as is often the case in such cases.

We monitor the sound quality and achieve really decent sounding of our devices, using our own acoustic laboratory for this. Thanks to her, the microphone and the speaker of the handset also do not cause any complaints, the sound of the speaker is surround, all the intonations of the interlocutor are transmitted, you will always understand the subscriber โ€œon the other sideโ€ correctly.

The device's indication is bright and clear, starting from the MWI indicator located in the upper right corner of the device's body, continuing with the screen and ending with BLF keys. Usually, BLF keys use light indication only when using the BLF functionality directly, but we have added backlighting to other functions as well. This allows the user not to peer at the icons on the screen, but by the indication of the key itself, to understand whether this function is active or not.

Accessories

As we mentioned earlier, the D7 expansion module is connected to the phone. The module allows you to significantly increase the already not the smallest number of programmable phone keys. The D7 module is very similar in design to the telephone and is very organically combined with it, harmoniously fitting into the office environment.

In addition to the expansion module, you can connect DECT and WiFi USB adapters to the phone. DECT dongle A230 allows you to connect DECT headsets or an external speaker Snom C52 SP to your telephone, providing high sound quality and long range thanks to the DECT standard. Wi-Fi-module A210 is used to connect the phone to WiFi networks of the organization operating in the frequency ranges 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Summarize

We told you about the Snom D715 IP phone. This is a convenient and pleasant device with full functionality of a modern IP-phone. It will suit both ordinary employees and heads of small divisions of the company and will serve as a faithful assistant in negotiations on any topic.
