Habr's birthday
This year there was the most unusual birthday celebration format - “every man for himself”. For obvious reasons, most of us were at home, so on our birthday we met by video call - in Whereby's rooms. And I must admit, it was cool!
I will share my impressions. The initial idea was to communicate with Habr users even from the most distant time zones, so I had to get up early. I have problems with this, so I started the stream almost from the bathroom - it's good that there was no one in the chat yet (except for a couple of colleagues who are used to everything). Then the people arrived and arrived - at first it was unusual (that users see the Habr team, but they do not show themselves), but then everything settled down and users began to virtualize.
Not without jambs. For a greater turnout, we decided to do a mailing list for all active users, but at some stage the mailing list turned up and this was not noticed right away - a huge part of the letters left only the next day. As a result, there was nothing left but to sit down in front of the camera and continue to communicate, with an already broken voice - in total, I personally spent 40 hours on the video, although many of my colleagues talked no less.
It was cool: people came from all over the world - not only the country, but also Russia. We talked, drank together, made hookahs and discussed some things related to the site and the IT sphere in general.Zhovnershowed off his Flipper and a mantis (that's why he has it on his profile picture), andForeverliveaccompanied the communication with his musical inserts (you can remember him from Piano Podcasts). And in the end, he even began to play any music that the participants ordered from him - from the Pirates of the Caribbean and Nirvana to Ramstein and Prodigi. Very cool, thank you all again!
Habr Kiosk
For the 14th anniversary of Habr, we and our partners have launched a merch store - habr.market . On its birthday, the store was covered with a habraeffect - no one expected such an amount of orders. But the entire stream was successfully processed, and now we are waiting for new batches of products that were in the greatest demand.
For a month the storefront was slightly redone, many products were photographed. Some photos were taken directly on me, for example, sweatshirts. The first samples of sweatshirts appeared at the Habr employees somewhere at the beginning of the year and they are excellent. I am not hinting at anything, especially since summer is now ... but as it was said in one series, "winter is coming." upd: well, it turns out there are t-shirts too! Then all the more I am not hinting at anything!
Finally I saw live “paper backpack "- at first I did not like this combination (all the paper is not the most suitable material for backpacks), but reality exceeded expectations. It turned out that this is not paper, but a synthetic material, very similar to it - the same rustling, but at the same time waterproof and wear-resistant. A relatively small price to pay for a handicraft, but my heart so far belongs to the soulless factory Urban.
A brain slug, by the way, is also knitted by hand. More than a hundred have already been linked - does anyone have a similar achievement on their resume?
Also on sale is a coffee set with branded cups. I didn't have time to taste the coffee, but I saw the cups - cups are like cups :) But thanks to them I was able to lure the habrauser to visitteplozorrowho wrote in glasses almost a scientific work . For half a day they explored the world through the prism of a thermal imager: thermal insulation of a balcony, an electrician, wrote indecent things with a laser pointer. There is really warmth inside the cat!
The list of changes on Habr for 2 months
At Mattermost, we have a VDNKh channel, where developers upload changes on the site. Over the past 2 months, more than 180 changes have been made there: something is visible to users, something is under the hood changes, and something is for upcoming features. I cleaned the list and it turned out that the main part of the changes was still hidden from visitors and was associated with two main tasks for the near future: WYSIWYG and the "iPad version".
If everything is more or less clear with the editor, then “ why is there an ipad version if you already have a mobile and desktop version?". I explain: if you open m.habr.com on the desktop now, it will be noticeable that the mobile version is much like the desktop version. And this is our tactic, which we will adhere to - we will leave one version of the site (with the actual code), which will work equally well and functionally on both mobile devices and desktops. And we will clean up all the old code to the maximum. I finished this paragraph, and a flashback from childhood appeared in my head - when I watched a molt from a snake, in which she got rid of old keratinized skin.
